The BC Wildlife Federation's Wetlands Education Program presents Wetlandkeepers, a free public workshop. Wetlands can filter water, mitigate flooding, and provide critical habitat to hundreds of species. Unfortunately, wetlands are disappearing at an alarming rate and need our protection.
BCWF's Wetlandkeepers Course is a 2 Day workshop that educates participants about wetland conservation. Upon community request, BCWF hosts the Wetlandkeepers workshop to cover topics of interest to community stewardship groups. Each workshop is unique but will cover basics such as:
Using Zoom and other online applications, the Wetlands Education Team will guide you through a workshop that is fun and engaging. Participants have the opportunity to explore wetlands from the safety of their own homes in 360 virtual tours, and learn about wetlands through games, interactive activities, and expert guest speakers.
The Galiano Island Wetlandkeepers will highlight some of the wetland initiatives happening locally with Galiano Conservancy Association, including the creation of an educational wetland at Millard Learning Centre. Wetland Restoration expert Tom Biebighauser will be joining as a guest speaker.
Upon completion of the workshop, participants receive a Wetlandkeepers Certificate and are provided follow up support from the Conservation Stewardship Manager.
You will need access to a desktop or laptop computer to participate, and a stable internet connection is highly recommended.
