Wetlands and Watersheds, Water Quality and Pollution - Wetlands Institute Speaker Series
 Description

2020 Wetlands Institute Speaker Series:

Wetlands and Watersheds,

Water Quality and Pollution

When
: September 30th, 2020,  9am to 11am
Where:  Hosted virtually over Zoom.
Cost NO CHARGE (valued at $100)

Due to COVID-19, The BC Wildlife Federation's Wetlands Insitute has been formatted into a virtual Speaker Series- a series of stand-alone webinars and workshops hosted throughout the Fall, covering topics that are of interest to those working in the environmental sector with wetlands (including environmental education).

Please join us to learn more about wetlands and the watersheds they are in, and how water quality and pollution can affect these sensitive systems.

Guest Speakers:

  • Heather Larratt is a Biologist, and Founder of  Larratt Aquatic Consulting. With over 40 years of experience in environmental regulation and reclamation, we are excited to have Heather join us as a speaker!

    • Heather will be speaking on using w etlands as bioreactors and constructed wetlands.

  • Denise Clark is a Fisheries Technician with Fisheries and Oceans Canada. She worked as an instructor at Thompson Rivers University for 8 years and completed her M.Sc. on wetland health under Brian Heise.

    • Denise will be speaking on wetland invertebrates, as well as invertebrate sampling methods, and water quality.

This workshop is suitable for consultants, planners, environmental/conservation groups, government representatives, First Nations, environmental educators, and engaged community members. Participants are invited to join the workshop with a wetland project or program that they wish to implement in their community and/or have a high propensity to initiate a project/program in the future.

This experience will also provide you access to a network of individuals who will help you successfully complete your local conservation project(s). You will leave with the skills, support, and confidence you need to make a difference in the world of wetland conservation. The BC Wildlife Federation offers follow-up support and resources to participants who complete the workshop, for up to 3 years post-workshop. Full-time participants are eligible to receive a certificate after successfully completing the workshop.

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we bring these valuable knowledge transfer events free of charge to wetland practitioners all over BC (and into other provinces!). This special offer is available thanks to the generous contributions of our funders.

Registration is limited and set on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration is separate for each individual event so please make sure to sign up for each event of interest.

This workshop is best experienced on a desktop or laptop computer, and a strong, stable internet connection is highly recommended.
