The BC Wildlife Federation's Wetlands Education Program is pleased to present a free virtual, public workshop. Wetlands can filter water, mitigate flooding, and provide critical habitat to hundreds of species. Unfortunately, wetlands are disappearing at an alarming rate and need our protection.

This BCWF's Restoration Workshop is a 1.5 Day workshop that educates participants about wetland conservation and restoration projects. Upon community request, BCWF hosts the workshop to cover topics of interest to community stewardship groups. Each workshop is unique, but will cover basics such as:

  • wetland plant ID
  • soil sampling
  • wetland classification
  • and more

This workshop will focus on, focusing on the wetland restoration project taking place in Dillon Creek. A  mix of local knowledge keepers, land managers and other environmental specialists will share their experience in wetlands and the Dillon Creek Restoration with the participants.  Participants will also get the chance to explore the newly created virtual 360 tour of Dillon Creek that will let you explore the “Before” and “After” the restoration project!

The first day will be getting everyone up to speed on wetlands, so covering the basics like: what makes a wetland, wetland losses & values, classification, wetland restoration and monitoring.

The second day will have several guest speakers from the Dillon Creek Project and experts, including
- Miranda Cross, the Dillon Creek Project Manager
- Tamara McPhail, the Lands Manager & Executive Director of Linnaea Farm
- Dusty Silvester, the Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) for the Dillon Creek Project
- Autumn Barrett-Morgan, the Monitoring Technician for the Dillon Creek Project

The virtual restoration workshop is a mix of in-class presentations and interactive group activities that provide participants with the technical skills to steward their own wetland. Upon completion of the workshop, participants are provided follow up support from the Wetlands Education Program Manager.
