Personal Health

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • If a sink is not available, alcohol based hand rubs (ABHR) can be used to clean your hands as long as they are not visibly soiled.  If they are visibly soiled, use a wipe and then ABHR to effectively clean them
  • Do not touch your face, eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
  • Do not share food, drinks, utensils, etc.
  • Stay home when sick and avoid close contact with others in your home if possible
  • Staff and participants at higher risk of experiencing severe illness should not take part in programs
  • Sailors and coaches should be mindful as they “expand their social circles” if they are themselves or will be in contact with higher risk members in their family

  • RPSA will only run small programs and be mutually exclusive from other classes
  • Classes will be taught exclusively outside
  • Contact information and time of all people accessing the facility will be recorded.  Contact tracing data will be stored for at least 4 weeks.
  • Washroom will be wiped down by participant after use.
  • Washroom will be cleaned after lunch period and at the end of the day.All activities will be outdoors.  In the case of inclement weather, programs will be cancelled.  This will depend on the severity of the weather.  It is equally important that all program participants and coaches dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Participants are expected to bring their own PFD's, if they do not have one contact, and we will try to arrange for you to have one.

Group Gathering

  • Groups will not gather except with their respective program participants.
  • Games will be limited within the same program.

Physical Distancing

  • Coaches will be provided masks to wear when in close contact with participants
  • All classes will operate separately.  Rigging and lunch will be staggered and, if possible, in separate areas.
  • A 3 meter physical distancing must be maintained between sailors.  If a 3 meter distance isn’t possible between a participant and their coach, the coach must be provided with the appropriate PPE.
  • Participants must only touch their own boat, equipment, and clothing
  • Each class will use the same boats and rigging everyday.
  • Participants who are at high risk or have members of their household who are at high risk are asked to not participate

Boats will either be rigged:

  • In the designated areas by the Old Mill Boathouse. Participants will launch their boats directly off the boat launch. If the coach needs to assist, they will be provided with the appropriate PPE.
  • On the dock. Only one program at a time will be on the dock. Participants will be ferried one at a time to the dock. Before a participant enters the coach boat, the coach will wipe down the boat. In addition to this, the participant will clean their hands using hand sanitizer. Between participants, the coach will disinfect the area of the boat that the previous participant was in contact with.

  • RPSA will have Hand wash available.  All RPSA participants and staff must wash their hands upon arriving and before leaving.
  • RPSA has an up-to-date touch map and cleaning schedule to ensure good hygiene practices.
  • Each coach will be assigned a coach boat on a daily basis and all boats will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized at the end of the day.
  • High touch surfaces will be cleaned before and after use.
  • After the class has come off the water, the sailboats will be disinfected and the participant will return their PFD to their designated storage area.  At the end of the week all PFDs will be disinfected.
  • Before and after use all high touch surfaces on the dollys will be disinfected.
  • RPSA will have appropriate amounts of soap and disinfectant for the previously mentioned activities.

Safety Contingencies

  • The BCCDC Self Assessment tool will be sent out to all participants prior to the start of their programs.
  • All participants and staff will complete the self assessment on a daily basis prior to coming to RPSA
