2024 Race Team

RPSA Race Team is an inclusive, friendly, dinghy racing team that promotes the sport of competitive sailing by providing coaching and support to a team of young sailors dedicated to:

• developing excellent dinghy racing skills
• setting and achieving personal and team goals
• having tons of fun

The Rocky Point Race Team is specially tailored for young sailors who want to spend more time on the water, hone their skills in all conditions, and learn how to sail fast. Dedicated, long-term coaches work with sailors to develop advanced boat handling skills, racing tactics, and sailing strategy. Race Team options are available for a range of experience levels and age ranges.

Youth Race Team (Laser & C420) | $650

Ages: 12 to 18
Prerequisite: CANSail 2

The Rocky Point Youth Race Team is tailored for sailors wanting to explore competitive sailboat racing. Sailors train twice a week at Rocky Point, developing advanced boat handling skills and learning how to use race tactics and strategies.

Youth Race Team options are available in both C420 and Laser Dinghies. Coaches will work with sailors to determine the most suitable boat choice based off sailor experience and goals.

We recommend new race team sailors interested in the program to contact us at info@rpsa.ca prior to registration to discuss which class of boat will be the best fit. 

Opti Race Team | $599

Ages: 8 to 13
Prerequisite: CANSail 1

The Opti Race Team is ideal for active youth, ages 8 to 12, who want to level up their sailing skills. Sailors will learn how to compete in races, all while building confidence, independence, and sportsmanship in a safe and fun team-based environment.

Spring Season Schedule

Training

March 31 - June 25  | Sundays 12:00PM to 3:30PM | Tuesdays 4:30PM to 7:30PM 

Regattas

- Kitten Cup @ Royal Van, April 20-21

- Waves @ Royal Van, June 22-23

What to bring:

• Closed toed shoes that can get wet are mandatory (no sandals or flip-flops)
• Appropriate, layered clothing for the weather
• Change of clothes and towel
• Snacks
• Water bottle
• Sunscreen

What to expect:

• Programs run rain or shine.
• Participants will be on the water as much as possible
• Personal flotation devices (PFDs) are provided. Sailors may bring their own PFDs if preferred.
• You will get wet
• Drop-off and Pick-up for all programs will be in front of the Old Mill Boathouse, 2715 Esplanade St. Port Moody BC. V3H 3P4

Before Arrival

• To maximize time on the water, please eat lunch before arriving
• To maximize time on the water, we ask that sailors on the Opti Race Team arrive in the clothing or gear which they plan to sail in, if possible.
