Editors Canada - 2018 Certification Test Registration

Being certified by Editors Canada is the recognition of an editor's high level of professional knowledge and skill. In today's competitive job market, certification demonstrates your expertise—and gives you a marketing advantage.

The Gold Standard of Editing

Registration is now open for the 2018 certification tests in structural editing and proofreading.

By passing the 2018 certification tests, you will be recognized as a Certified Structural Editor or Certified Proofreader.

If you're pursuing the full certification of Certified Professional Editor (CPE), this may be the year to complete your CPE designation.

Registration closes on Friday, October 26, 2018.

Computer Testing

This year's Editors Canada Structural Editing certification test will be offered on PC computers.  Please note that we are not offering the certification tests on Mac computers.

The Proofreading certification test will be a paper and pencil test.

Test Date

Structural Editing     Saturday, November 17, 2018   10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Proofreading            Saturday, November 17, 2018   2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The copy editing test and the stylistic editing test will be offered again in 2019.

Test Locations

The following test locations are planned, based on demand: Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and Ottawa.

Certification Credential Maintenance

Editors who pass the November 2018 tests will be required to maintain their certification credentials. Credential maintenance involves earning professional development points and paying an annual administration fee. Credential maintenance adds value to your credentials and to the certification program by 

  • assuring employers and clients that certified editors are keeping their skills and knowledge up-to-date editing skills and knowledge
  • giving you an easy way to track and support your skills and knowledge through your professional development
  • encouraging certified editors to contribute to the editing community by sharing knowledge and skills
