Many small and usually rural congregations of the Presbyterian Church
of Ghana are served by people from within the community, under the
direction of a District Minister. Many of these people have received
no formal theological training and in addition, their general
educational level may be quite limited. Recently the Presbyterian
Church of Ghana has embarked upon an intentional effort to deepen the
educational level of those who serve in positions of leadership within
the church and is in the process of developing printed resources and
training called the Lay Ministries Training (LMT) program.
Costs for the LMT training include the purchase of a manual for
each course required in the program, presently a total of 35 manuals,
which the student can continue to use as “their library” after the
completion of the course. In addition, there are transportation costs
(which vary with each student) and course fees each time a student
participates in a required period of training, usually about two or
three weeks at a time.
