Hi Everyone,

I am thrilled to be participating in a medical relief and education mission trip to Azua, Dominican Republic, with members of Team Broken Earth Ottawa in November, 2023. Team Broken Earth is a non-profit group of volunteer Canadian healthcare professionals that provides medical assistance to Haiti and other underdeveloped countries, where some people wait for months with broken bones and other life-changing injuries. There are several Broken Earth Teams across Canada, including here in Ottawa.

I have gone on 3 missions with Team Broken Earth to Haiti in the past, and I am really looking forward to returning to provide medical care for a population in need, this time to, Domincan Republic, to help continue the work of our Broken Earth colleagues and to bring back new knowledge and perspectives for my work here at home.

As you can imagine, this type of trip is expensive to conduct. All of the work is conducted on volunteer time, but the team needs to provide medical equipment and supplies, as well as to cover patient expenses at the hospital. There are also travel and logistics expenses for the team. The average trip cost per member is $3000.

Team members have created their own individual fundraising pages to collect donations in support of this effort, which is funded only by donations.
