In November 2023, Team Broken Earth's Ottawa team will be traveling to Azua, Dominican Republic. While we will be the first Team Broken Earth group visiting this location, many of our team members have done medical relief trips to Haiti in the past.
This region has a significant population of uninsured patients including many Haitian refugees, who have poor access to medical care. We will be providing orthopedic surgical care for patients who otherwise would not have access to this type of care.
One of the most rewarding aspects of these missions is the focus on providing sustainable collaborative care with our local colleagues, as we provide not only clinical care, but also education to help improve the local knowledge and skills. Our team is keen to build new connections and provide tangible medical aide to those in need of it.
