In November 2023, I will be volunteering as a General Surgery resident to assist with "Team Broken Earth - Barrie" to aid people in Guatemala by improving access to necessary surgical treatments. I was fortunate to participate in the 2022 trip to Guatemala with Team Broken Earth, in no small part due to the support of generous donors.

Our surgical team includes surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses, many of whom have volunteered with Team Broken Earth in the past. As you can imagine, a surgical mission to Guatemala is a huge undertaking, requiring vast resources and funds. A major part of our preparation for this trip will be securing supplies and medications required to conduct surgeries.  There is no inventory of supplies in Guatemala for us to use. Everything we need, we must bring with us.
