PCFC has shaped my own journey in a very direct way. I was a proud recipient of a Grant-in-Aid Award, which supported me through my Master of Science in Experimental Medicine at UBC. That support helped me stay in the field and commit to prostate cancer research. I now work as a laboratory technician at the Vancouver Prostate Centre, where I study the mechanisms behind advanced prostate cancer with the goal of uncovering better treatment strategies.
This cause is deeply personal to me. I lost my grandfather, Jack Hoggard, to prostate cancer. And now, my father is fighting the disease. Participating in this run each year is one of the ways I honour both of them and fight for a future where fewer families have to face what ours has.
The funds raised through this event do not just support patients and families, though that alone would be reason enough. They also invest in young researchers who are just starting out, helping fuel the next generation of ideas and breakthroughs. Since 2008, PCFC has awarded over 50 Grant-in-Aid awards to students and postdoctoral fellows at the Vancouver Prostate Centre, totalling over $1.8 million in funding. I am proud to be one of those recipients, and proud to give back.
On June 21st, 2026, I will be captaining the Vancouver Prostate Centre team at the Father's Day Walk/Run in Burnaby. If you are able to donate, I would be truly grateful. Every contribution goes directly toward this work.
Thank you for your generosity and for being part of this fight.
