We are the researchers, clinicians, and trainees of the Vancouver Prostate Centre (VPC), now evolving into the M.H. Mohseni Institute of Urologic Sciences (MIUS), part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine's Department of Urologic Sciences, based at Vancouver General Hospital, the Jack Bell Research Centre, and the Robert H.N. Ho Research Centre.
The VPC has earned its reputation as one of the world's most respected urologic cancer facilities, recognized as a National Centre of Excellence and a designated Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research. Our mission has always been to drive team-based translational research: uncovering the molecular mechanisms behind cancer progression and therapeutic resistance, and translating those discoveries into better diagnostics and treatments for patients. As Dr. Martin Gleave, Chief Scientific Officer of MIUS, has described it, MIUS is the natural evolution of that globally recognized work, expanding the VPC's legacy into a broader institute of urologic excellence spanning six specialized centres.
We participate in the PCFC Father's Day Walk/Run because this cause is central to who we are. Prostate Cancer Foundation Canada (PCFC) has been one of our Centre's most dedicated supporters, funding over 50 Grant-in-Aid awards to our graduate students and postdoctoral fellows since 2008, totalling more than $1.75 million in trainee research funding, and supporting key laboratory equipment that powers our work every day. This event is our opportunity to give back.
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 Canadian men, with roughly 26,000 new diagnoses every year. Every step taken on June 21st, and every dollar raised, goes directly toward changing those numbers, for patients, for families, and for fathers.
Run with us. Walk with us. Cheer us on. Every bit of support matters.
