Newborn kittens are adorable with their sweet little faces and tiny
folded ears. They weigh between three and five ounces and cannot see
or hear. They rely on their mothers to keep them warm and help them to
go to the bathroom.
While kittens can be born at any time of the year, the greatest
number of kittens are born during 'kitten season', which begins in
early spring and runs through late fall. This is the time of the year
when pregnant cats, and nursing and orphaned kittens come into the
shelter. We have already had 47 kittens come into the Oakville &
Milton Humane Society and the 'season' has just begun.
Many of the kittens that come to OMHS are orphaned. Fragile,
these tiny felines cannot survive without around-the-clock care.
They need to be bottle fed every two hours day and night to stay alive.
It costs $250 to raise one kitten. With so many kittens expected
this year, we always need your help. OMHS relies entirely on
donations to care for the animals. Please help us feed and care for
these vulnerable felines until they find their forever families.
They are counting on you.
