Pledge-a-thon Thermometer API

The Pledge-a-thon thermometer URL is normally used to embed an image of a single Pledge-a-thon or Category thermometer into your website, which is updated instantly when donations occur.

With a minor modification to the link, these Thermometer URLs can also be used to automatically retrieve the updated amount raised through your Pledge-a-thon with a data request. This allows you to use the total amount raised in a variety of ways, such as in a flash widget or displayed with a javascript function in your web pages.

How do I automatically pull Pledge-a-thon fundraising data from GiftTool to my application or website with a data request?

For a single Pledge-a-thon:

  1. From the Setup menu of the Pledge-a-thon service, click Manage Pledge-a-thons
  2. Click Profile next to the name of your desired Pledge-a-thon
  3. Locate the Thermometer Source URL link and copy the full http:// address (double click the URL link to highlight the text and right-click on the mouse selecting Copy).
  4. To see what the URL responds with, paste the link into a web browser, adding either &Format=dollars or &Format=cents to the end of the link.
    • Adding &Format=dollars to the end of the link will retrieve the amount raised in dollars or other currency as specified in the Pledge-a-thon setup.
    • Adding &Format=cents to the end of the link will retrieve the amount raised in cents or other currency as specified in the Pledge-a-thon setup.
  5. This modified link URL allows you to use the total value of the thermometer, such as in a flash widget or be displayed with a javascript function in your web pages.

For a Pledge-a-thon Category (which includes multiple Pledge-a-thons):

  1. From the Setup menu of the Pledge-a-thon service, click Manage Categories
  2. Click Profile next to the name of your desired Pledge-a-thon Category
  3. Locate the Thermometer Source URL link and copy the full http:// address (double click the URL link to highlight the text and right-click on the mouse selecting Copy). Alternatively, you can copy the Thermometer Image Tag and paste it directly into the HTML code of your web page.
